Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 14-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • The submission has separate file with supplementary data (post address, phone number and email for contatcs, ORCID iD). If you do not have an ORCID iD, you are encouraged to create one via the ORCID site.

Author Guidelines

Requirements to Formatting Articles Submitted for Publishing
in the Plant Variety Studying and Protection Applied Research Journal

1. The articles submitted must comply with the following requirements.

The Plant Variety Studying and Protection applied research journal shall publish the articles containing their own original research findings, which constitute a value for science and applied use, as well as articles qualified as reviews and surveys. Any articles released previously by any scientific publishers shall not be considered by the Editorial Board.

Total volume of your Article (tables and figures included) shall contain 5 to 12 А4 sheets. Where your Article features significant scientific findings its volume could be increased subject to the Editorial Board approval.

  1. The following items shall be submitted by electronic means:

  • Ukrainian/Russian/English manuscript identical to the hard copy (the surname of first author of the article shall stand for the file name);

  • the Article Abstract in Ukrainian, Russian and English, keywords included;

  • pictures (each in separate file, the file name shall be rys 1, rys 2 and so on, in duplicate, size 9×12 cm, clear and contrast

  • Details of the contributors: Full names of all the authors, contact person highlighted, academic degrees, academic titles, positions, institution names, country of residence (if outside Ukraine). Please also provide your office and home addressees (postal code included), office and home phone number (area code included), email, key research targets pursued by the author(s), as well as name and postal address of the agency that has hosted the study (in Ukrainian, Russian and English).

  1. The articles will not qualify, unless include the following items:

  • Introduction (problem statement);

  • Survey of recent studies and releases applicable to the subject matter; materials and methods applied; findings of the study (the Article essentials along with complete validation of resulted findings of the research are to be outlined);

  • Conclusions;

  • List of References in line with DSTU GOST 7.1:2006 Standard.

  1. Technical requirements to the manuscript format.

The submission shall be provided on А4 sheets margined as follows: upper and lower margins – 2 cm, left margin – 3 сm, right margin– 2 сm, font of type – Тіmes New Roman.

The Article body shall be typed with spacing of 1.5, font size 14, portrait orientation.

Yield data shall have ton per ha format, deciles to be separated with coma. Enter non-breaking space between name(s) and surname, as well as between numbers and units.

The manuscript shall contain:

  1. UDC index (to be provided at the first line of the page, align left);

  2. author name and surname, academic degree, academic title, agency full name (align left);

  3. name of the Article (Ukrainian, Russian, English, align center, please put Latin names in the Article title and body in italics);

  4. Extended abstracts (summaries), in the three languages, of 200 to 250 words should be: informative (free of general provisions); substantive (reflecting the Article subject matter and findings of the studies); well-defined (indicating aims and objective of the research, procedures and scientific approaches, findings, conclusions, keywords – up to 8);

  5. The list of references shall be formatted according to the Higher Attestation Commission (VAK) requirements in line with DSTU 7.1:2006 (official standar) 'Bibliographical Description. General Requirements and Drafting Rules'. The VAK Bulletin, No. 3, 2008 (Template 23, pages 9 to 13) provides examples of the bibliographical description formatting. The List of References shall contain at least 10 sources, of which the sources that have the Article contributor for their author do not exceed 30%. Foreign sources are a must. The quotations in the Article body shall be provided in square brackets indicating sequence number of the referenced publication according to the List of References. The List of References shall always sequence the sources as they appear in the body. Primary sources shall be quoted in their original languages.

  6. The Article shall have the List of References attached in Latin characters. The REFERENCES must be formatted with АРА-style (see. Example). The data transliteration shall comply with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 27.01.2010 No. 55 on Arranging Transliteration of Ukrainian Alphabet into Latin Characters or BGN/PCGN requirements (applicable for Russian language).

Serial publications (magazines, collected volumes) shall be referenced only true to their official Latin spelling with ISSN registration number available at a publication website or scientific on-line databases (elibrary.ru, sciencedirect.com, 'Naukova Periodyka Ukrainy' etc.).

Ukrainian transliteration is available with https://ukrlit.org/transliteratsiia.

Russian transliteration is available with  https://translit.ru/ (Standard to set: BGN). Any languages written in Latin characters are not subject to transliteration.

English edition of the List of References (References) shall be drafted in line with АРА International Standard (applicable in case the manuscripts are to be listed with international databases). The latter applies in the USA as a Standard Article Format (List of References included) as adopted by the American Physiotherapy Association (APA). In order to facilitate formatting of the articles with the above Standard, kindly consult https://ua.translit.net/#mp1. Ukrainian characters shall be transliterated in line with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Decree No. 55 of January 27, 2010, whereas the Russian shall comply with BGN/PCGN system. The authors shall ensure due accuracy and quality of the translation.

Graphic matter shall be reduced to the extent available. Tables and drawings shall have a title and sequence number and to follow after first reference relating thereto in the body.

References to the table shall be provided in brackets (Table 1). The table shall be preceded by the following items: Table 1 (in right upper corner of the page without a full stop after its number). Table header shall be typed semi-bold (Times New Roman), no full stop to follow after the header. Table graph names shall be short and horizontally aligned; digital data of the table and the text shall not overlap. Notes to the tables shall follow just below thereof.

Drawings shall be sharply defined, preferably coloured, contrast. Name of a figure shall follow below thereof, text to be aligned by width (Fig. 1.), no full stop to follow after the figure name. Text of the figure shall fall within the size of 10 to 12. Any bulky writings on the figure shall be replaced with digital or alphabetical references. Explanation of the latter shall be included into the inscription below the figure.
