Publication Ethics

The publication ethics policy of the journal Plant Varieties Studying and Protection has been developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/resources) and DOAJ (https://doaj.org/).

The editorial board strictly follows all rules and provisions recommended for academic and scientific journals by COPE.

The editorial board implements the universal recommendations of WAME (World Association of Medical Editors) regarding editorial independence. This guarantees that publication decisions are made solely on the basis of scientific quality and are not influenced by the founders of the journal.

Compliance with the recommendations of DORA (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment) supports the principles of fair evaluation of scientific activity and promotes open science.

Responsibilities of the Editor and Editorial Board Members

The editor is responsible for deciding which submitted articles will be published. In making such decisions, the editor is guided by the journal’s policy regarding copyright violations and plagiarism.

The editor evaluates submitted manuscripts for compliance with the journal’s scope and the general professional requirements for scientific publications.

The editor and members of the editorial board evaluate manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic content, regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, or ethnic origin of the authors.

The editor and editorial staff must not disclose information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or editorial staff involved in the editorial process.

The editorial board of the journal consists of leading national and international scientists who are experts in scientific fields relevant to the journal’s thematic scope.

Конфлікт інтересів.

If the editor-in-chief or a member of the editorial board is the author of a manuscript, a special conflict of interest procedure is applied.

The author must indicate their role in the journal in the cover letter when submitting a manuscript.

The manuscript review is assigned to an independent editor who has had no joint publications or projects with the author during the previous 3years.

The author has no access to information about reviewers, their comments, or internal editorial discussions.

A double-blind peer review process is used involving external experts who are not members of the editorial board.

The final decision is made by an independent editor without the author’s participation.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must submit manuscripts prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the journal’s content and technical requirements, and the thematic profile of the journal.

Only original scientific articles that have not been previously published and are not under consideration in other journals are accepted.

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research, writing, or scientific editing of the manuscript. All contributors must be listed as co-authors.

Authors should carefully review the list and order of authors and provide the final list during the initial submission of the manuscript.

Adding, removing, or rearranging authors is allowed only before acceptance of the manuscript. Changes during the editorial process are permitted only with justified explanations submitted to the editorial board and publisher.

For transparency, authors are encouraged to provide a statement describing the individual contribution of each author to the research and manuscript preparation.https://ease.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/EASE-Interactive-Checklist-for-Submitting-Authors-Ukrainian.docx

Authors must disclose any financial or personal interests that may influence the submitted work.

Authors submitting manuscripts guarantee that the work does not violate any existing copyrights.

If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a published article, they must inform the editor-in-chief and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the article.

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to comply with the journal’s editorial policy.

The journal supports the principles of DORA regarding the objective evaluation of scientific contributions.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer review helps the editor make informed decisions regarding the publication of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewers contribute to improving the quality of scientific work by providing constructive comments and recommendations to authors through the editorial office.

A reviewer may decline to review a manuscript if:

  • they feel insufficiently competent in the subject area;
  • they are unable to review the manuscript within a reasonable timeframe.

If a reviewer agrees to review a manuscript, they must perform the review carefully and within the agreed time.

All manuscripts submitted for review are confidential documents and must not be discussed with third parties except authorized editorial staff.

Reviewer comments must be objective. Criticism should be constructive and aimed at improving the manuscript rather than discrediting the author.

Any information or ideas obtained during the review process must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.

Reviewers must decline the review if there is a conflict of interest resulting from competition, collaboration, or other relationships with the authors or their institutions.

Reviewers are responsible for the quality and integrity of their evaluations.

Additional ethical guidelines for reviewers are provided in the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.(https://publicationethics.org/guidance/guideline/ethical-guidelines-peer-reviewers)
