
Peer Review Procedure
Initial Manuscript Evaluation
Each manuscript submitted to the journal is first evaluated by the editor. During the preliminary assessment, the editor evaluates:
- originality of the work
- scientific quality
- language quality
- relevance to the journal’s scope
Manuscripts that meet the journal’s policy and minimum quality criteria are sent for scientific peer review.
Type of Review
The journal practices double-blind peer review, meaning that authors do not know the reviewers and reviewers do not know the authors.
Selection of Reviewers
The editorial board continuously updates its database of potential reviewers and adds new experts in relevant scientific fields.
When selecting reviewers, the editor considers:
- scientific status and experience
- academic reputation
- previous cooperation experience.
Conflict of Interest
Editors and reviewers involved in the peer-review process must declare the absence of conflicts of interest.
Potential reviewers with competing interests must disclose them and decline the review.
Any information obtained during peer review must not be used for personal benefit.
Review Reports
Reviewers provide clear recommendations regarding the manuscript together with justification of their conclusions.
Reviewers evaluate:
- originality
- methodological validity
- compliance with ethical standards
- clarity of results and consistency with conclusions
- completeness and relevance of references.
Correction of grammar mistakes is not part of the peer review process.
Review Recommendations
Reviewers must provide one of the following recommendations:
- Accept the article for publication
- Accept with minor revisions
- Major revisions required (followed by re-review)
- Reject the article
If reviewers’ opinions differ significantly, a third reviewer may be appointed.
Final Decision
The editorial board informs authors of the final decision regarding the manuscript.
Reviewer comments and recommendations are also sent to the authors.
The final decision belongs to the editor.

If you are not yet a reviewer for the journal Plant Varieties Studying and Protection, but would like to be added to our reviewer database, please register as a reviewer on the journal’s website or contact the editorial office.
Reviewers gain access to the latest research in their field and contribute to the development of agricultural science. Participation as a reviewer may also be indicated in your CV.
